Item Effect of Ambient Temperature on the Maintenance Requirements of Pre-Ruminant Calves(1978) Black, D.H.; Adoko, G.M.The asserted estimate of the maintenance requirement of pre-ruminant calves based on many research findings is 638 kJ ME/kgo.75/day. However in Rhodesia, Johnson and Elliott (1972) suggested the lower value of 390 kJ ME/kgo. 75/day. A similar variation was observed by Black (1976) who estimated that Friesian calves in Scotland had a maintenance requirement of 523 kJ ME/kgo.75/ day while in Trinidad Holstein calves of the same age and with the same management had an estimated maintenance requirement of 374 kJ ME/kgo. 75/day. In order to assess whether these differences in maintenance requirement were a direct effect of ambient temperature the following experiment was carried out at the CTVM.Item The Effect of Rib Temperature on the Specific Gravity Determination on the Tenth Rib Sample Joint(1976) Adoko, G.M.; East African Agriculture and Forestry Research OrganizationTo avoid the costly and time-consuming process of whole carcass dissection, research workers have investigated the possibility of using sample joint analysis for prediction of carcass composition.Item The effect of rib temperature on the specific gravity determination on the tenth rib sample Joint(1976) Adoko, G.M.; East African Agriculture and Forestry Research Organization, Nairobi, KenyaTo avoid the costly and time consuming process of whole carcass dissection, research was held constant at workers have investigated the possibility of using sample joint analysis for prediction of carcass composition.
