Item An Assessment of the Irrigation Suitability of the Soils of Suguroi Estate (Laikipia District) 1984(Ministry of Agriculture, 1984) Ekirapa, A.E.E.; Kinyanjui, H.C.K.; Ministry of AgricultureThis report describes the soils of Suguroi estates, in Laikipia District, Rift Valley Province. The request for the survey was made by the Chairman of Gianni Ltd., to assess the suitability of the soils within the estates for surface irrigation. The crops earmarked for development are fodder crops to be used for livestock fattening. A preliM1nary investigation of the soils was carried out from 19th November to 1st December, 1984 by the following officers: Messrs. A.E.E. Ekirapa, B.C.K. Kinyanjui, B.N.M. Onyono, P.M. Mainga and V.W.P. van Engelen. The survey had to establish major soil patterns, with emphasis on drainage, depth, texture, topography, sodicity, salinity, stoniness, boulderiness and rockiness. It was assumed that this information would be adequate for decision making regarding irrigation.Item An Assessment of the Irrigation Suitability of the Soils of Suguroi Estate (Laikipia District) 1984(Ministry of Agriculture, 1984) Ekirapa, A.E.E.; Kinyanjui, H.C.K.; Ministry of Agriculture; Ministry of AgricultureThis report describes the soils of Suguroi estates, in Laikipia District, Rift Valley Province. The farm was subdivided into individual plots, most of which are in general about 1/2 of a hectare. However, a few are bigger but rarely more than 5 hectares. The former settler had developed an irrigation canal drawing water from the Nairobi river which borders the farm. The canal provided water for irrigating grass.Item KARI-NARL-KSS - Detailed Soil Survey for the Improvement of Fodder and Livestock Production in CYKA Estates (South Kinangop, Nyandarua District), 1994(Kenya Agricultural Research Institute, 1994) Kinyanjui, H.C.K.; Muya, E.M.; Kenya Agricultural Research Institute; Kinyanjui H.CK; Kenya Agricultural Research InstituteThe Kinangop area is one of the main suppliers of vegetables and other perishable food stuffs to the city of Nairobi and other nearby towns such as Naivasha, Gilgil and Nakuru. Production of milk is also a major enterprise. In view of the above, the owner of the farm Mr. requested for soil investigations that would form better land management and improvement. He intended for dairy cattle. C.K. Waithaka the basis for to grow fodder Soil survey of the farm was carried out in the month of April, 1994.Item Semi Detailed Soil Survey of the Yala Swamp Farm (Siaya District) 1987(Ministry of Agriculture, 1987) Ekirapa, A.E.E.; Kinyanjui, H.C.K.; Ministry of AgricultureThe Yala Swamp Farm of the lake basin development authority(LBDA)was reclaimed in1970. The swamp used to join Lake Kanyaboli, situated to the north of farm, bur it is now seperated from it by a dyke.River Yala used to flow into the swamp but it was canalized for over 7km, causing the swamp to drain and as result the reclaimed area used for agricultural production is about 2300ha.Item Soils of the Kapenguria Arba (quarter degree sheet 75), 1976(Ministry of Agriculture, 1976) Gelons, H.F.; Kinyanjui, H.C.K.; van de Weg, R.P. (ed.); Ministry of AgricultureThe present soil survey is the second in a series "Reconnaissance Soil Surveys" with multi-purpose land evaluation, per topographic nop sheet. The southern part may be taken as an example for the high- potential, low-population areas of the country. It is situated partly at nediun altitude (Kitcle-Kapenguria area), partly at high altitude (Cherongani hills). The northern part belongs to the medium-potential, low population areas of the country. It is shown in the report that the soil resources in the southern part are often of noderate to high quality. There is some scope for opening-up of new land, but most of the agricultural development will have to come from the improvement and intensification of the existing types of land use. A good part of the Cherongani hills aren is recommended for silviculture rather than for crop production or livestock farning. Because of the steep slopes such farming would lead to rapid dininishing of the organic matter rich topsoils and to substantial erosion, unless exponsive and very strict soil conservation measures are taken. In the northern half of the aren the land resources are poor. Most of the north-eastern part has very steep slopes and shallow soils. Here the naintenance of a protective vegetation cover is recccmended, also to safeguard the hydrological potential of the rivers originating in the area.Item Soils of the Kapenguria Area (quarter degree sheet 75) - Reconnaisance Soil Survey Report 1976(Ministry of Agriculture, 1976) Ministry of Agriculture; Gelens, H.F.; Kinyanjui, H.C.K.; Van de Weg, R.F.; Ministry of AgricultureThe present asoil survey is the second in a series Reconnaissance Soil Survey with multi-purpose land evaluation per topographic map sheet.
