Item Studies On The Aetiology Of Anaemia In Chronic Fascioliasis In Sheep(1968) Sewell, M.M.H.; Dinning, D.C.; Hammond, J.A.The erythrocytes of four sheep having chronic infections with Fasciola hepatica and two uninfected controls were labelled with SICr. The resulting radioactivity in the faeces was used to give an estimate of the daily loss of blood. The apparent loss of blood in the faeces of the infected sheep correlated closely with the fluke burden, the calculated daily faecal blood loss per fluke being 0'5-1'0 ml. The total daily mean losses in the infected sheep ranged from 42 ml. to 18g ml. compared with only 2 ml. to 4 ml. in the uninfected controls.
