An outbreak on a pig farm complying with the pig-paddocking ordinance, designed to prevent contact with the wild pig reservoir, may have been caused by farm labourers killing wild pigs for food. The role of ectoparasites needs further investigation.
The Use of Leukocyte Cultures for Diagnosing African Swine Fever (ASF)

Malmquist and Hay (1960) described the hemadsorption and cytopathic effect produced by African Swine Fever Virus (ASFV) in swine bone marrow and leukocyte (buffy coat) cultures. These reactions are particularly useful for differentiating ASF and hog cholera (European Swine Fever) since hog cholera virus does not produce hemadsorption or cytolysis in these cultures.
