Abstract

When van Rheenen and Gichuhi (197S) 'wanted to start a breeding ,programme at Thika, Kenya, they observed that their crosses were successful for 15 percent only while the percentage of natural pod set was 55. Obviously an improvement here was much desired. A literature review and their first experiences suggested some possible ways of improvement.
