At detailed level, about 990 hectares were covered in Sandai Irrigation Scheme (Baringo District), National Horticultural Research Station, Thika, ICRAF Research Station (Machakos District), Moi Forces Academy (Nairobi) and Barwesa Irrigation Schem~ (Baringo District). Site evaluation surveys covering a total of 127,000 hectares were completed in the Trans Mara Division (Narok District), Bottomlands in Meru District,Ngoru Farm (Kiambu District) , Kandi' s Dam area (Kajiado District, Njukini area (Taveta District and Meru College of Technology (Meru District). Reconnaissance soil maps of the Mtito Andei and Voi areas were printed. Report writing for the reconnaissance soil survey of the Makueni area, the Amboseli-Kibwezi area and the Busia area continued during the year. Fair drawing of the exploratory soil map of Kenya and the Agroclimatic zone map of Kenya continued in Holland. '!be final draft of the soil map of Kenya (scale1:3,000,000) was compiled for the new edition of the National Atlas of Kenya. At detailed level, about 330 hectares were covered in Coffee Research Station, Ruiru (Kiambu District) and Nini Farm, Naivasha (Nakuru District). Preliminary surveys (Site Evaluations) covering approximately 150,000 hectares were completed in the Trans-Mara Division (Narok District), Mwikya's Farm (Machakos District), Ndeiya Karai area (Kiambu District) and the National Youth Service Farm, Kirimun (Samburu District). The Exploratory Soil Map of Kenya and the Agro-climatic ZOne Map of Kenya (both at scale 1:1 million) were printed. The editing of the reconnaissance soils reports for the Amboseli Kibwezi area and the Mtito Andei and Voi areas continued during the year. Report writing for the various soil surveys which had been completed in 1981 continued. The farm was subdivided into individual plots, most of which are in general about Y.z of a hectare. However, a few are bigger but rarely more than 5 hectares. The former settler had developed an irrigation canal drawing water from. the Nairobi river wnkh borders the farm. Kaaya, G. Ndung'u and J. Low. The graphics design work has been undertaken by David Campbell and Muthama Muthlanl. The technical Information has been updated by the Senior Entomologist, Senior Pathologist and Senior Chemist at the National Agricultural laboratories. Every effort has been made to see that the Information In the book Is accurate but the editors would be grateful If readers could Inform them of any Inaccuracy 10 that the ammendments can be Included In the next edition. From time to time, Itaff will receive new and updated material for the handbook. This could then be inserted in their own copies
